Why is it so hard to buy a Christmas gift for men?
Why is it so hard to buy a Christmas gift for the men in our life?
To find something that will make him say “Wow -that’s just what I wanted!”?
Here are some of my thoughts – tell me if you can think of any more!
1 – Men just don’t “get” the idea of waiting for something they really want.
If they want it, they will go and buy it -and will not understand when you say “I was going to get you that for Christmas!”
2 – Men don’t think luxurious versions of everyday items are proper presents.
We might think a pair of cashmere socks, a Designer tie, a Gucci briefcase are perfect presents.
Most men will think that socks, a tie or a briefcase are necessities and not acceptable as a Christmas gift- however luxurious.
3 – Men like to choose their own toys.
They might let slip that they want a new Gizmo, and you might think that the most expensive, or the cheapest, or the one with the biggest discount will be just fine.
But he likes to spend hours thinking about, reading about, talking about and fretting about which one to choose. It’s part of owning it, and what you choose is most unlikely to be received with real appreciation.
(By the way, it was my son who pointed this out to me when I told him what I have bought for my husband’s gift this year. We’ll see how right he was….!)
So those are some of my reasons. Does anyone have any more??
